大概军迷都会晓得二战中的谢尔曼坦克。
当然谢尔曼坦克是以美国南北战争中的著名北军将领谢尔曼命名的。
谢尔曼全名是William T. Sherman.
这个T. 是Tecumseh
Tecumseh 是美国早期历史中著名的土著领袖。
在美国边境历史上的一个小战争Tecumseh战争就是以他命名的。
日后，他跟加拿大的英国人联盟在1812年的战争中于美国交战。
谢尔曼的老爸佩服这位土著领袖，于是给自己的儿子命名Tecumseh。
谢尔曼最出名的还是其在南北战争中深入南方的大后方“向大海进军”，将南方一分为二。
谢尔曼充分认识到战争的残酷性。

You cannot qualify war in harsher terms than I will. - 美国南方很多大城市在谢尔曼的铁蹄下再也没有恢复元气，直到现在，仍然没有回到当年的地位。
谢尔曼的战法残酷而有效。现在看来美国南方人当时都疯了，简直是拿头往墙上撞，但当时谁也没有办法用理智来说服他们不要搞分裂，不要搞独立。

不愿意哪怕一个中国战士为此流血。不幸的是，Japan 的侥幸冒险心理从来没有真正消失过。
“日本可以说不”是经济上的不自量力，以为经济战争可以单纯地通过经济打赢。碰壁之后又有点想军事冒险了。
