今天星期几？－数不清日子的船上生活

When you don't have to go somewhere to work each morning, everyday seems the same. Especially when the weather doesn't change much, one easily loses count on the dates.
Here in Scarborough, Brisbane, day after day, it is sunny and warm, we get up when the sun is out in the morning, do whatever chores that come to our mind, then go to bed not long after sun-down. Amazingly how repeated days like this can get to you - it only took 4 days for us to lose the sense of the day of week!
Last week, after 4 days back to the boat, Bruce decided to go to the bank to transfer the payment to the Darwin Rally organizer. Mind you, we don't have a car here. At the edge of Brisbane suburb area, it means the simple trip may take hours since the buses only run once an hour. After the breakfast, Bruce got his gear ready: hat, sun glasses, bus pass, money and a book (for killing the time while waiting for the bus).
I was busy working on the boat when he came back just before 3 pm saying "it must be Saturday today". Why? We had absolutely no doubt that was Friday. "Because the banks are not open." He first went to the bank in a shopping mall to find out the part of mall is being rebuilt. Then he took a bus to another shopping location to confirm his fear - ha, all banks are closed. It must be Saturday. That's how he spent a good part of the day.
Now we must pay more attention to the date since we are flying to New Zealand on this coming Friday. I double check the date on iPad daily, just to make sure today is not the day!
We need a date clock! Don't care about the hours and minutes, just give us the month, the day of the month and the day of the week!
