[读书笔记] 丁尼生 《尤利西斯》 节选

本杰明格雷厄姆八十岁生日爬梯上对儿孙们做了个演讲,演讲最后以这一段诗作结尾。这首诗是写老年的,不过我看了后觉得很受激励,就抄录下来以作自勉:$ R* e1 u# ^3 h+ L: d

'Tis not too late to seek a newer world.
5 z1 l: x. ]# J: L; d0 G
; a9 W4 x% \5 p0 n3 A5 s" D2 zPush off, and sitting well in order smite
9 q( N: a% K# L6 e( T" w' n9 N ) C3 _1 @9 y6 z& E5 Z% L
The sounding furrows; for my purpose holds3 p; j4 C( p9 I

6 M4 ~4 n% t. s) \! X+ ]6 z6 ~To sail beyond the sunset, and the baths
$ q6 k! f. |0 Y& o$ L3 T6 {, S ' g6 U. L9 x! l! e' k; e( K
Of all the western stars,until I die.

% M3 a# k. F" S9 m7 a( g7 n) |It may be that the gulfs will wash us down;  e' M$ H, g# m6 v

. l& f6 ]/ z" `; `2 mIt may be we shall touch the Happy Isles,

5 G) d7 @9 H0 v7 gAnd see the great Achilles, whom we knew.

Though much is taken, much abides; and though0 b$ ]& d, d+ K  k3 @) ?& Q

Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
