[读书笔记] 丁尼生 《尤利西斯》 节选

本杰明格雷厄姆八十岁生日爬梯上对儿孙们做了个演讲,演讲最后以这一段诗作结尾。这首诗是写老年的,不过我看了后觉得很受激励,就抄录下来以作自勉:7 `5 f& T1 S6 U/ F. p. G& l

'Tis not too late to seek a newer world.( h+ U1 Q9 C9 R% k8 W; i

+ ^0 J" C5 g* @& z, ]" c. {Push off, and sitting well in order smite+ V" o- x! P' v% E/ N
& F+ f" @# n. x! t
The sounding furrows; for my purpose holds
0 ^/ _! E6 {8 `7 L2 }  R! Q* I8 s
( B& D) u! x! I+ W& Y  STo sail beyond the sunset, and the baths
" M$ {8 a$ f# |/ A7 J  J 1 E& I4 I* ]6 r
Of all the western stars,until I die.

It may be that the gulfs will wash us down;

It may be we shall touch the Happy Isles,

We are not now that strength which in old days

Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are

One equal temper of heroic hearts,
