短暂停留又和暂停又能有多少区别？这区别足以大到“肯定不准确”？

你总是乐于指出别人的错误而吝于承认 ...

你如果有本事指出我的错误，我自然承认。就象仁说gave pause to是过去式，我立刻就意识到并承认了自己的疏漏。

give pause to译作短暂停留并不准确，英汉词典和英英词典的解释我都抄给你了，自己看着办，大家都有分辨力。

对了，明天我要到我父母家“短暂停留”一下，我不是去犹豫和踌躇的。

唉:-(  从你最后这个例子就知道你没明白。你应该这么举例子，忽然消失的狗让你短暂停留了，那你是不是犹豫踌躇思考了呢？

两个破折号的继续讨论讨论？这可是英语语法，不是诗，没有多解性。对就是对，错就是错。

我不太懂语法，瞎理解“gave pause to”是停下后面的事（木偶），去做前面的事（看那些鬼）

"看那些鬼"：

不太清楚你的意思。一则“看”从原文哪里得来，二则，谁看。

我觉得山菊这样译，再译回英语，大体上是：

Transient clouds stop being gravity's marionette.

stop doing, 停止做某事，不再做某事。

与之相区别的是stop to do sth: 停下（原来做的事），开始做另一件事。

give pause to sb. 使某人犹豫。

原文：transient clouds that gave pause to gravity's marionette.

that引导定语从句，直译：

曾使重力的牵线木偶犹豫的转瞬即逝的云。

我昨天问水龙同学了，关于破折好里四句，他说我的理解是对的。然而最后一句错了~~~主要是我读不通这句的英文文法！他说完整的句子应该是：

These are familiar ghosts.
These are transient clouds that gave pause to gravity's marionette.

他答应解释一下这后两首诗。另外他说很喜欢你翻译的那首'龙鱼'~~~他查字典看的中文

另外他说自己信佛教。
我知道他吃素很多年了。

在两个dash同时出现时，一般情况下都可以把两个dash换做左右括弧活逗号，也就是说两个dash间的内容只是补 ...

But as I reread 'Night Rules', what I think it means is that when the
memories of what we have been return to us in the late hours of the
night, we realize that, no matter how good or meaningful those
memories seem, they were illusions created to avoid the realization
that our lives are beyond our control. Once that is accepted, there is
no need to fear death.

In the end, a poem means what it means to you. If your translation
reflects that, then it is correct.

I believe this is the correct Chinese phrase:

从原文和作者看似语焉不详实则基本说透的注解来看，此诗主要有两个主题，一是对“生”的回望，二是对“死”的想象。

其中不全是，但无疑加入了一些佛教思想元素：

we realize that, no matter how good or meaningful those memories seem, they were illusions

所谓“illusions”、“transient clouds”云云，大体就是《金刚经》中的著名格言所揭露的。佛教总体上看带有悲观主义的特性。

读了三遍。。。我觉得这一段放在雅思托福里都是难句了。。
原来在作者眼里这一段是写死亡和我们应该平静接受死亡的。实在想不到。意料之外，诗意之中。
