The charges of transportation and receipt both carry a five-year mandatory minimum prison sentence and a maximum 20-year sentence. The possession charge carries a maximum sentence of ten years. The FBI and BSO are collaborating on an ongoing investigation while a case is built against Mangione. According to the FBI: This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Led by U.S. Attorneys' Offices and the Criminal Division's Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS), Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children, as well as to identify and rescue victims.
