A Quatrain

Yellowbirds sing duo in green willows,

Egrets form a dotted line on blue sky,

Snow-capped mountains sleep in my west windows,

Seeing my door, ships from the east drop by.

(in trochaic pentameter, 五步扬抑格)

绝句

杜甫

两个黄鹂鸣翠柳
一行白鹭上青天
窗含西岭千秋雪
门泊东吴万里船

参考了许渊冲先生的译文：

A Quatrain （五步抑扬格, in iambic pentameter）

Two golden orioles sing amid the willows green;

A flock of white egrets flies into the blue sky.

My window frames the snow-crowned western mountain scene;

My door oft says to eastward-going ships “Goodbye!”

主语是ships，seeing my door是现在分词做状语。“从东方来的船，看到我的门，都暂停拜访”。

原来以为这首诗里的“西”、“东”对称只是凑数，最近看了《杜甫草堂史话》，才发现老杜是百分之一千的“诗史”，这首诗完全是实际记录。不仅有西东，还有北南，屋北墙后栽柳防风（所以是听见而不是看见），南窗观察候鸟北归，大西窗增加采光，房屋朝向西南，但开门朝东南，与浣花溪平行，随时都能看到船只。这首诗的时空坐标到现在都还能找到痕迹。
