Te Ata Fisher broke the mold for what society said she should be.
A woman born in the late 19th century. A Native American child of the Chickasaw Nation. In that time the boxes of what she could do with her life were quite small.
But break out of them she did. As a student at the Oklahoma College for Women (now University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma), Te Ata worked as an assistant in the theatre department. It was this position that would set the foundation to her career.
Te Ata became a one woman show, creating performances of Native American songs and stories. She performed locally, then nationally and eventually all around the world. She performed at the first state dinner when FDR became president. And she performed for the King and Queen in England.
Te Ata stood proud of her Native American roots, not just as a Chickasaw, but as a Native American. And with this pride and her ability to perform, she helped educate the world about Native American culture.

Alice "Martha" Dorn, a Miami native and University of Miami graduate, was the first person to turn in an officer candidate application without indicating whether she was a male or female. She also became the first female officer candidate in the Marine Corps Women's Reserve in the 3rd Naval District. She made company Commander then Battalion Commander.

Pancho Barnes was only ten years old when she went to an airshow with her grandfather, an American aviation pioneer. But she didn't learn to fly until her later 20s, when she was driving her cousin to his flying lessons and decided she wanted to learn as well.

Juliane Koepcke, age 17, was sucked out of an airplane after it was struck by a bolt of lightning. She fell 2 miles to the ground strapped to her seat and survived. However, she had to endure a 10-day walk through the Amazon Jungle before being rescued by a logging team. Out of 93 passengers and crew, Juliane was the only survivor of the LANSA flight 508 crash that took place December 24th, 1971
